Clinical services and institutional consulting are at the center of the mission of the Yale Department of Psychiatry, alongside excellence in teaching and research. Through Yale New Haven Health, Connecticut Mental Health Center, the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven, Yale Medicine, Yale Behavioral Health, and other clinics, the department hosts groundbreaking programs specializing in mental health and substance abuse treatment. We treat people of all ages, from adolescents through geriatrics, and our specialists treat most brain illnesses, from psychoses and major affective disorders to personality and addictive disorders. We are a nationally recognized provider of clinical and institutional consulting and expertise. These clinical programs are intimately interwoven with the training and research missions of the department.
Patient Care
- Connecticut Mental Health CenterCollaboration between the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services and the Yale Department of Psychiatry, CMHC annually provides recovery-oriented mental health services for over 4,000 people in the Greater New Haven area and throughout Connecticut.
- The Steward House at Silver HillThe Steward House at Silver Hill, in New Canaan, CT., a collaboration between Yale Medicine, Yale New Haven Health, and Silver Hill Hospital, is a transitional living program exclusively for leaders to rediscover and strengthen the skills necessary for long-term recovery and wellness.
- VA Connecticut Healthcare SystemThe Psychiatry Service and affiliated programs at the West Haven campus of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System form one of the department's primary clinical sites.
- Yale Interventional Psychiatry Service (IPS) Interventional psychiatry is an emerging subspecialty that uses advanced modalities and procedures to treat patients who have been resistant to commonly used treatments.
- Yale MedicineThe Yale Department of Psychiatry within Yale Medicine is the largest provider of psychiatric services within Connecticut.
